Te Puawai and a Hangi

Monday night saw Te Puawai, led by Mrs Tamatea, give their annual performance.  The evening was filled with Waiata, Haka, Poi and more. p1040011p1040107

We were treated to an amazing Hangi after the show.  The work started at 7am and many classes spent some time watching the process happen.  Thanks to all the hardworking people who spent many hours making this happen!

Choir and Notable Sounds Concert

The final weeks of the school term are an excellent time of celebration for students, teachers and parents.  This year we have seen some fantastic performances from the choir and Te Puawai groups.

The Choir and Notable Sounds, led by Mrs Burgess, have wowed the community with their singing performances this year.  It’s amazing to hear their technical expertise and the concert is a highlight for all involved.

Senior Team Speech Competition

Congratulations, Ruby, for your fantastic speech entry in this years Senior Team Competition.dscf1924

Every student prepared and presented a speech on the topic, ‘Me in the 21st Century’.  Ruby’s speech focused on the impact of technology for her life at school and at home.

Everyone who entered this year should be proud of their efforts, especially those finalist pictured below.  Thank you, Mrs Wiggins, for being our guest judge and giving the students such encouraging feedback!

Touch Rugby Semi Finals

Today was one step closer to the grand finals on next Sunday.  Our ‘in-house’ touch rugby tournament is VERY popular  and well supported by so many parents.  We are currently wrapping up ten weeks of connected learning about ‘Hauora’, personal wellbeing.  It’s fantastic to see so many children giving it everything they’ve got!

Christmas is Coming

Dear Parents – Kia Ora

The Christmas season is upon us and like everybody at this time, we are busy preparing for the end of the school year.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank people for the amazing work that they have done, either as parent volunteers or as staff members.  Your contribution has made Riverdale School – the best place to be!  Volunteers have been working as classroom assistants, taking sports teams, providing travel and other activities.  Your involvement has enriched school life and we value and thank you for your willingness to help.

Our touch rugby module has yet again been a great success and we appreciate the time & effort that Lance & Ange Tahiwi, Paula Whenuaroa and Nathan Paki have made, to provide our students with this great experience.

A special thank you to all PTA helpers for a fantastic year. The PTA has raised and contributed over $13,000 to Riverdale school in 2008.

A special thanks to our chairperson, Simone Rush, who has been with our school for many years. Regrettably Simone has handed in her resignation as her family finishes at Riverdale School. Thanks Simone, your vibrant energy and sense of humour will be missed.
