We are really excited to welcome back our children and families to Colyton School.  We hope you have had a relaxing break and are ready for another exciting year.
Our teaching staff have spent one of our teacher only days at Hiwinui School.  Our 2016 Professional Learning collaboration with Hiwinui will involve an intense look into incorporating key competencies into students writing.

Mr Smith and Mrs Watts are led blindfolded during a team building exercise at HiwinuiSchool.

Teacher only day outcomes 2016

To deepen our understanding of Managing Self, we will explore what it means to

  • have a can-do attitude;

  • cope with risk taking;

  • persist;

  • be influenced by feelings, attitudes and beliefs (as writers); and

  • have a fixed, mixed or growth mindset

  • writing from two perspectives -  as writers and as teachers;

  • how to create opportunities for all children to find personal significance;

  • how to tap into universal experiences;

  • and clarify our aspirations for our learner writers;

  • relationship-based teaching; and

  • conditions for writers to flourish.

  • explore an example of a unit that has clear links to the key competencies;

  • form a coaching partnership and examine examples of the planning;

  • Using GROW each teacher will identify: a personal goal, current reality, options going forward and next steps
